FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions What is a short haul move? This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves. What is a local move? This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state. What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state. Why is the cost for traveling higher for moving trucks? The costs of driving time are normally higher because moving trucks can’t travel at the same speed as regular vehicles on highways. They also can’t access any non-truck routes which results in longer mileage. What should I do with essential items I need on my moving day? We recommend that you transport any essentials such as bed linens, towels, toilet paper, cosmetics, toiletries and medication in your own vehicle. If this isn’t possible, clearly mark these boxes and make sure your movers place them in a specific place at your destination. How soon in advance do I have to book one of your movers or packers? This depends on the availability. However, you should contact a moving company as early as possible once your moving date has been confirmed. The summer months are always much busier so you may require more notice. Can my moving company store my items temporarily? Some moving companies will temporarily store your items in a safe storage facility. However, you have to pay for any warehouse valuation coverage, final delivery charges from the warehouse and any storage charges. Can I leave my clothing in dresser or chest drawers? You can leave lightweight clothing such as blouses, lingerie, shirts and sweaters in drawers. However, don’t leave heavy items such as sheets, table linens or books in drawers because they damage the furniture. Also remove any valuable or fragile items before the move. Should I disassemble my furniture before the move? You can do this if you have time, but it’s not required. If your movers need to dismantle any furniture, they will reassemble it in your new home. Can my moving company ship my vehicle internationally? Most moving companies can arrange transportation of your vehicle to any country that allows importation. Make sure to check this beforehand as some countries charge very high taxes and duties for importing a vehicle. What should I do if I haven’t finished packing by my moving day? If you realized you won’t be finished packing by your move date, make sure to inform your moving company as soon as possible. You may be able to hire professional packers to help you finish the job or move on a different date. Your movers may be able to pack up a small amount of items, but you will end up paying more for the move. What is a binding estimate? This guarantees the exact cost of the move based on any services requested or deemed necessary at the time of the estimate. Additional services that are requested or required such as shuttle service, additional packing or adding items will be added to the cost of the estimate. What is a transportation surcharge? This is an extra fee charged when the pickup or destination locations are very remote which results in less return weight for the moving company. |
